Majordomo Staghelmby Lady Wenaeleyn![]()
The loss of his son, Valstann, in the War of the Shifting Sands utterly shattered Fandral Staghelm's spirit.
Now empowered by Ragnaros as the new Majordomo of the Firelands (replacing the deceased Majordomo Executus) and the leader of the treacherous Druids of the Flame, Fandral seeks to bring ruin to Azeroth rather than live in a world without his beloved child. Overview and AssignmentsThe Majordomo Staghelm encounter requires 1 tank, 3 healers, and 6 dps. Staghelm has three forms: cat form, scorpion form and human form. His form will change based on the raid's positioning, allowing the raid to control how he uses his abilities. The longer Staghelm is in each form, the faster his special attacks will happen. Each time Staghelm switches forms, he will gain a stacking damage buff. The raid will have to carefully control how often Staghelm changes forms to survive this built in soft enrage mechanic. Scorpion FormStaghelm will shift to Scorpion Form as long as at least 7 raid members are grouped up together. Flame Scythe is his special ability in this form. The damage dealt will be split amongst the raid members it hits. When this phase begins, the entire raid must group up in front of the boss to divide the Flame Scythe damage. Melee classes such as Rogues and Feral Druids will see their dps suffer during the Scorpion phase. It is possible for these classes to dps the boss from behind as long as they move in front of the boss for Flame Scythe. Once Staghelm reaches 4 stacks of Adrenaline, the time between casts will be too short and this will no longer be possible. Cat FormStaghelm will shift to Cat Form as long as the raid is spread out. If 7 members or more get too close together, he won't stay in this form. Leaping Flames is his special ability in this form. He will pounce on a random member, leaving a fiery void zone behind. A copy of Staghelm called a Spirit of the Flame will also spawn every time he uses this ability. When the raid decides to force Staghelm to shift to Cat Form, the ranged and healers should spread out in a circle around the boss. Staghelm and any Spirits of the Flame that spawn should be tanked inside the circle. Ranged players should move to avoid any void zones that appear, similar to the positioning in Valiona & Theralion. The adds should be killed as quickly as possible to avoid getting too many at once. Players should also be aware that the void zones do extreme damage and must be moved out of very quickly. Human FormThe raid is not able to force Staghelm into Human Form. He will briefly shift to this form every third shift, in between one of his normal shifts. Immediately after shifting into Human Form, he will use Fiery Cyclone to incapacitate the raid. This will be followed immediately by one of two special abilities. Players will have to deal with these abilities after Staghelm has shifted into either his Scorpion or Cat forms. Searing Seeds Staghelm will cast this when shifting from Cat to Scorpion. The seeds will explode when they are fully grown, doing damage to those within 10 yards. Searing Seeds will be followed by Scorpion Form. Since the raid will be stacked up for this phase, players must watch their own debuff and run out of the raid when it is about to expire. Burning Orbs Staghelm will cast this when shifting from Scorpion to Cat. Two large orbs will spawn around the room and do damage to the player closest to them. The damage will stack as long as the player takes damage. Players will already be spread out for the Cat Form phase, so the raid should have pairs of players ready to trade places when the orb damage gets too high. This will be similar to the Shards of Torment in the Baleroc encounter.
Adrenaline and FuryAs mentioned previously, the key to this encounter is to balance how often and how quickly Staghelm shifts from form to form. Staghelm will gain two different buffs throughout the encounter which need to be balanced to succeed: Staghelm will gain a stack of Adrenaline each time he uses his special ability, decreasing the time it takes until the next cast. The cast times will decrease as follows: Staghelm will also gain a stack of Fury each time he changes forms. This means the more often Staghelm shifts, the more damage his special abilities will do. There is not a set strategy for when to cause a shift. It is recommended to start Staghelm in Scorpion form to find out how long the healers can keep the raid up through Flame Scythe. This will likely be around 7-8 stacks of Adrenaline. Likewise, the raid should attempt to stay in Cat Form until the dps are spending too much time on adds and none on the boss. This will likely be around 6-7 stacks of Adrenaline. Posted: 07/25/11 | Filed Under: WoW, WoW Raiding
