Maloriak

by Whitelight

    Basics

With a 7-minute enrage timer, Maloriak is mostly a DPS race.

    Interrupt every Arcane Storm.

One tank will handle the boss, and a second tank will pick up adds, which spawn from both sides of the room. The adds should be tanked near the stairs.

Maloriak activates three different mini-phases by throwing colored vials into his cauldron...

    Red Vial

The tank will flip the boss around, and (almost) everyone will stack right in front of the boss. Scorching Blast is incoming---it's a frontal cone spell whose damage is split among all its victims.

If you have Consuming Flames, be sure you won't be hit by Scorching Blast, because you will take extra damage with this debuff (and will die).

    Blue Vial

Spread out when this mini-phase begins.

If you get Biting Chill, run away so you don't hurt your friends.

If you get Flash Freeze, also run away from others. You will be encased in ice, and DPS will (hopefully) free you. The off-tank can be Flash Frozen, which often causes new adds to go loose. Breaking people out of this is the highest priority for non-interrupting DPSers.

    Green Vial

Every third vial is always green, and you only get two Green Vials per fight.

Throughout the fight, Maloriak has been casting Release Abberations, which releases 3 of his adds. The goal is to have 9 abberations when the Green phase hits. As such, you will have been tracking the number of adds present leading up the Green phase, aiming to hit 9 soon before it starts. You control the spawns simply by interrupting or not interrupting the Release Abberations cast. (Any more than 9 adds is too much damage on the off-tank and risks a wipe.)

Maloriak teleports near the stairs, where your off-tank will be waiting with the adds. AoE the adds and (as a bonus) Maloriak. All the active adds must die during this phase.

    Phase 2 - Burn!

As this phase starts, the main tank the boss to a nearby wall. With his back to the wall, the tank will slowly move around the perimeter of the room as each patch of fire appears.

Void zones and orbs will spawn. Avoid them. (There is also a poison nova, but this is unavoidable, and its damage is simply healed.)

The boss now releases 2 special adds (Prime Subjects) which will "fixate" on random targets. The tank must build threat on these adds to pull them away. These adds are ignored by DPS while they take down the boss himself.

Otherwise, this is a simple burn phase. Beat the 7-minute enrage and win.
