Shannoxby Lady Wenaeleyn![]()
The flamewalkers are among the most feared elemental guardians in the Firelands. Shannox is no exception. Serving as the chief hunter and kennel master of Ragnaros' hell hounds, Shannox patrols the elemental realm with his two most ferocious beasts: Riplimb and Rageface.
Positioning & TankingShannox and his dogs are immune to taunt. The encounter requires one tank for Shannox and one tank for Riplimb. The tanks will start the fight standing about 60 yards apart (raid markers help with this). The Riplimb tank will keep the dog in the same spot the entire fight. The Shannox tank, however, will probably be required to make a gradual semi-circle around the area, using Riplimb as a focal point. The other dog, Rageface, has no aggro table and will be loose in the raid for the entire fight. The rest of the raid should be spread out loosely between Shannox and Riplimb. There are a few mechanics that will require player movement to avoid, but none of these mechanics require players to maintain a specific distance from each other. Jagged Tear Shannox will occasionally use Arcing Slash in a wide arc in front of him. The current tank should keep Shannox faced away from the raid at all times to avoid additional players getting hit by this ability. Arcing Slash will inflict Jagged Tear on anyone it hits (should just be the tank). Riplimb's Limb Rip will also apply stacks of Jagged Tear. The tanks will have stacks of this debuff almost the entire fight. It is possible to drop stacks with careful use of the encounter mechanics: The Riplimb tank should use the traps as well as slows from raid members to prolong the time it takes for Riplimb to return to his original location. As long as he is not hitting the tank, the stacks of Jagged Tear should have time to fall off. Likewise, as long as Shannox doesn't have his spear, he cannot apply Jagged Tear to his tank, allowing those stacks to drop as well. RagefaceAs mentioned previously, Rageface will not be tanked. He will jump from player to player, switching targets at random. His main ability is Face Rage. Rageface will leap on a random player, knocking them to the ground and causing increasing damage over time. During this time, Rageface is more susceptible to critical strikes. He will continue to attack his target until it dies or until he receives a single attack for more than 30,000 damage. Players with high burst damaging abilities should attempt to stop him as quickly as possible to prevent player deaths. TrapsShannox has two traps that he will use throughout the fight. The traps are placed beneath players and will arm themselves in two seconds. After they are armed, they will trigger if stepped on. Keep in mind that these traps will affect both players and the two dogs. Players should use this to their advantage. However, once a dog is caught in a trap, they will become Wary and immune to traps for 25 seconds. Immolation Trap This trap deals fire damage when triggered as well as fire damage over time. The trap will also increase damage taken by 40% for 9 seconds. Crystal Prison Trap This will trap the player (or dog!) in a crystal prison, stopping all movement. The trap lasts until it is broken by damage. By using these traps against the dogs, players can burn them down faster. This is useful, but not required if the fight is executed correctly.
Frenzied DevotionA key aspect to this encounter is the dogs' devotion to Shannox. If the dogs are still alive when Shannox reaches 30% health, they will go into a frenzy. Their damage and movement speed will increase dramatically, most likely wiping the raid. It is advisable to divide dps between Shannox and the dogs. It is best to have melee dps stay on Shannox and Riplimb while ranged dps handle Rageface. Once both dogs are dead, Shannox will go into a Frenzy, dealing 30% more damage and throwing out more traps. Use Heroism and burn the boss down quickly. Posted: 06/23/11 | Filed Under: WoW, WoW Raiding
